When it comes to writing, it's often hard to make the time to sit down and just do it. It's even harder when ideas come to you at inopportune moments - like in the shower, or 2am, or driving at 100kph on a highway. Some people are lucky and will dream their ideas for books (our very own Ash being one of them!), while others will have an inkling of an idea then struggle to bring it to fruition as a whole story.
The process for each writer differs and with that, their style, too. Some plot a whole book then go back and write it. Some fly by the seat of their pants and write as it comes to them.
I'd be in the 'pantser' category and when I get an idea, I have to write it down as it comes to me or it's gone. I also tend not to plot it out, but will have a general feel of where it's going to go. Often, I'll have an idea of where it's going and the characters will ambush me and take it in a different direction. The story I started on Saturday just gone is a great example of that for me. I had an idea of where it was going to go and the lead male hijacked my story and took off running with it. Then I revised my strategy to go with his hijack and BAM! off it went in another direction.
I give up.
Truly.
I'm getting used to my stories being hijacked by my characters, and that's okay by me. But, I get antsy when a very short story idea turns into a whole afternoon of writing and I end up with RSI in my hand from gripping the pen!!
Then I have to sit and type up over 20 pages of handwriting only to find it doesn't look nearly so impressive in a Word docx.
Bummer.
Anyway, for the opening paragraphs of Saturday's effort, go visit our FB page by the links up above.
