And it's another weekend done and dusted ... and I didn't get any literary things done. I lie. I reviewed one book. That's a pretty slack effort for me!
I did, however, throw a small birthday afternoon of fun for my six-year-old daughter. She had a ball and loved her panda shaped birthday cake. I can tell you now, writing a chapter is far easier than trying to figure out how to decorate a cake. For me at least. I know other mums at school whose talent lies in decorating cakes. With a few tips from them, and not a small amount of panic, I pulled it off. This cake take equal pole position as best cake done in eight years (among three children...)
It could be considered sad that out of that many cakes and children, I've only excelled at two of them, but as I said above, it's not my strength. I find my strenghs and go with them. Copy editing and writing are mine. I found these and I'm embracing them. What are your strengths? What can you do better than someone else?
I stress so much at times about what I can't do, I forget to embrace the things I can do. The things I can do better than my family (who seem to excel at all things academic). Today I'm embracing the things I do well.
I can edit.
I can beta read.
I can write.
I can cook a mean banana cake!
I can also drag myself to bed before 2am. It's now 1. Oops. (so much for an early night!)
What can you do well? Embrace your strengths and don't stress the weaknesses. You can work on them another day!!
